Lucifer Vir Honestus
Biography
Luna Scamuzzi feels each piece of Lucifer Vir Honestus take shape as a new experience and work of art. Though she does not consciously draw on her background as an architect, her work is both architectural and organic. Luna’s aesthetic was also influenced by nature and the sea during childhood time spent in Sardinia. “Nature is my mentor,” Scamuzzi says. With her love of each unique stone and with her quintessentially Italian passion for shape, color and design, Luna creates luminous little masterpieces of timeless beauty. The entire creative and technical process to realize each piece is completed in Luna’s workshop in Milan. She creates each model using individual stones that she personally selects from different parts of the world. Using the lost-wax casting technique, every piece takes shape in the desired metal followed by the finishing process, to assemble, set, polish each piece. “I never sketch a jewel; I sculpt wax. I think with hands,” Scamuzzi has mused. Deeply inspired by the sea, Luna makes each piece of jewelry by hand to embody her oneiric world of organic designs.
Luna Scamuzzi is the designer and creator of the Lucifer Vir Honestus jewelry brand. She studied as an architect and began to sculpt the wax to create jewels in 1998 after discovering her need to translate her emotions and esthetic vision, and found jewels to be a powerful medium of translation. She named her jewelry line Lucifer Vir Honestus after the first registered medieval jeweler in Milan. Her talent was discovered by Barneys in 2001, as her international career was taking off. Since, her work has been highlighted in major publications like the Wall Street Journal, StyleCaster, Elle, and the New York Times.
