Sometimes the most striking jewelry isn’t about the stones—it’s about the mind and the hands behind them. Few embody that idea more fully than Silvia Furmanovich, one of the most visionary artists working in fine jewelry today.

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Silvia Furmanovich descends from a long line of Italian goldsmiths—her great-grandfather crafted ornaments for the Vatican, and her father was a goldsmith. What began as a personal exploration in the late 1990s evolved into the launch of her namesake brand in 1998 and, later, her brand in the year 2000. Her flagship and atelier remain in São Paulo, where she now works alongside her three sons.

Furmanovich is known for fusing global influences with technical mastery. The atelier blends unexpected techniques—such as marquetry, lacquerwork and miniature painting—with organic materials like bamboo, silk, and wood, alongside precious gemstones. The result is jewelry that transcends adornment, extending into sculptural objects and homeware.

What sets her practice apart is a deep immersion in craftsmanship traditions. In Acre, Brazil, she worked with local woodworkers to adapt marquetry to jewelry-scale precision. She has also collaborated with Japanese bamboo weavers, Uzbek textile makers and Rajasthani miniature painters—creating bold, thoughtful pieces defined not by carats, but by time, skill and cultural exchange.

Furmanovich’s unique approach has led to collaborations with major cultural institutions, including The Heirloom Project at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

In 2023, she debuted a homeware collection with Asprey, the iconic British retailer known for its fine jewelry, leather goods, silver, and luxury objects.

Furmanovich’s work has earned wide acclaim for its originality and craftsmanship. She is a four-time winner of the Couture Design Award in the ‘Innovation’ category (2015, 2016, 2019, 2022) and a two-time recipient of the Couture ‘People’s Choice’ award—for her Silk Road Collection in 2022 and her Horse Mane Collection in 2024. Her India Collection was named ‘Collection of the Year’ in the 2018 Town & Country Jewelry Awards, and her Egypt Collection earned the magazine’s ‘New Hall of Famer’ distinction in 2022. In 2023, her Silk Road Collection was honored with Town & Country’s ‘Innovation of the Year’ award. She was also nominated for the prestigious GEM Awards in 2019.

Furmanovich’s pieces are held in the permanent collections of The Hispanic Society Museum & Library in New York and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
